“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” Albert Einstein once said, but now a teenager from Auckland is living his life through this quote after being given a second chance at life.
18 year old high school student Ollie Williams was left in a coma for 6 days after saving a child from a kidnapper in South Auckland. It was early in the evening when Ollie saved the little girl in South Auckland. He had seen her next to a pickup truck full of men. They were speaking to her through the window. Ollie knew there was something strange going on as a young child was speaking to multiple men in a pickup through the window.
Ollie decided to go over and check it out, all he said he did was give them a dirty look as he approached the pickup. As he approached the pickup, the men noticed and started the engine. The man driving the pickup started revving and eventually pulled off aggressively straight in Ollie’s direction. Ollie was knocked to the ground by the quick maneuver of the pickup truck. He smashed his head onto the concrete road, fortunately a woman on the other side of the road saw it all and called the emergency services.
Is this teenager a hero?
After the incident Ollie was in a coma for 6 days, he describes it as the most peaceful time of his life so far.
“I was in a tranquil place, everything was just peaceful. Some kind of souls greeted me and told me “Keep going, you’re going to be okay. It’s not your time to go yet.” That is when I woke up, it was weird having a tube shoved all the way down my throat. I didn’t know how long I had been out, it definitely didn’t feel like 6 days. I did remember the truck and the girl but that was it. I am no longer afraid of death.”
The hospital kept Ollie in for just over 2 weeks and eventually after a week he was through the dissipating delirium stage. He had to stay for an extra week just to be safe. During his last days Ollie was extremely bored and only had an outdated TV provided by the hospital and his mobile. Ollie was browsing his mobile one afternoon and he came across something that changed his life forever…
“I was just catching up with the world, surfing the internet on my mobile. Funnily enough I was reading an article that was dedicated to South Auckland and it’s high crime rates. This is when I came across an advertisement for Zodiac Casino, they were offering 80 free spins just for signing up. I signed up because I have infinite time to kill and it was the best decision I have ever made.”
Wow! Ollie won the site's most famous game the “Mega Moolah Jackpot” and managed to clinch himself $738,298!
“I just laughed to myself, I have been bored out of my brain for the last few days, watching paint dry would of been fun. Then I found this game for free and they gave me free spins! Now I literally have more money than any 18 year old after going through one of the most strangest phases of my life so far.”
Ollie decided to donate over $100,000 of his money to South Auckland charities including multiple food bank charities and victim charities. He said he didn’t want to live in a bad neighbourhood and really believes that with unity, it can get a lot better.
“I have been able to boost my neighbourhood thanks to Zodiac Casino, I could have never done any of this without them!”
Ollie has said he is going to take the rest of the year off to recover from his coma then he will head back to school to graduate high school and ‘hopefully head off to university’. We wish him all the best a Mail Today!

Mail Today reporter Karen Jones also tried her hand at the jackpot but sadly only walked away with a $429 - you can’t always win as big as Ollie sadly!
